If the inlet manifold was blocked it wouldn't run but the ports may have a large build up of crud which will impede performance....if you haven't owned it for it's life you may want to have a look in the wiring harness around the EGR valve area or if the harness at the MAF sensor looks like it has been rewrapped it may already have the defeat fitted. If done correctly you would never know.

Cool

Hi Jeepers,

First time post.
I realise that this is an old thread, but is there a way of seeing the photos that were uploaded for this EGR defeat thread? Photobucket isn't playing nice and there are no photos to be found. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welome JohnnyMc.

What did you want to see a photo of. I can take a pic of my engine bay but it looks standard so you won't see much.

New proposals for our annual UK safety test (MOT) suggest among other things an EGR defeat would be an automatic fail. as would DPF or CAT removal. They've gone crazy over emissions.

Unless they are looking for higher levels of nitrogen oxide, if done correctly they'd be hard pressed to work out it had be done.

I think in this thread there was one bloke in the UK that had failed his MOT but passed after he implemented the EGR defeat.

I don't see the need to delete the Cat, they don't create a big drop in power. People who only drive around the city shouldn't buy a modern diesel with a DPF, it will only create problems for them. They'd be better off with a petrol engine IMHO.

Every common rail diesel should have a good quality catch can though, helps keep the common issues related to diesel EGR to a minimum.

Since the photo hosting site from way back started to charge for the site, if you didn't pay then you lost the use so I doubt they will be available....just went to page 1 of the thread, yep the main info has gone, I will see if I still have copies of the diagrams, may not since a lot of years have gone by otherwise you might be able to source the info from the Merc Forum.
If you want to do the mod, then it is easy BUT it would be a waste of time after all these years without a removal and clean of the inlet manifold unless it's had a catch can on it for many years................if you have bought it 2nd hand it may have the EGR Defeat done, if done properly you wouldn't know unless you opened up some of the wiring harness, with my old rig you wouldn't have a clue.

Try this page, about one-third down: https://jtccc.wordpress.com/our-cars...rand-cherokee/

My WG has 245000km on the clock, but I am still planning the EGR delete. The EGR takes a second or two to close, so a sudden jump on the power yields a puff of smoke until it closes.

I'm also considering trying a can of the spray cleaner after the EGR delete mod: http://www.phoenixlubricants.com.au/...oductnumber=13
