dude on here was doing a 3.0L Toyota swap, they also run an AW4

they are one hell of a sweet engine, and would probably save fuel, with no loss of power,,,never read he finished it though...
A mate does 10/100 in his LS2 vz tonner with 4wd, my ba falcon does similar on fwy and they're a lard ass compared to an xj lol. Barras cost stuff all as well and can get a whole car for a K now and motors for stuff all. Can probably do majority of it myself, but won't be for some time. Definitely would like to do one though, my xj is pretty tidy so would be a good candidate for it.

A 2jz you are referring to? I'll pass... The torque isn't there. The 4.0l ho has 300nm at 2500rpm, barra has 400 (while NA) at 2250rpm, ls even more....

In my old 96 Limited I used to get 18l/100km around town, about 16l/100km on the hwy & 19 to 21l/100km when towing our 1000kg camper. It had a 3" lift, 30" muddies, full length tradesman's roof rack and rear drawers that were full of recovery gear & tools all the time. I did have a 135l long range tank though so the fuel stops were less frequent. Also had the correct spedo gear in the tranny for the tyre size the the calcs were spot on. I was pretty happy with those figures given how un aerodynamic the XJ was and the mods I had.

a Barra would be good, but is there support to transplant one?
Has it been done before?

like mating bellhousing to trans, or trans to Tcase
a very strong knowledge of auto electronics would be needed.

I am pretty sure there would be no escaping engineers fees, for an engine change?

that's not bad Hamish.....I had to go to longreach one last time so I thought I might put all this to the test no exact maths here but...I filled the non standard tank holds 60 litres I think kept on 100 around 1800/1900 rpm I used nearly 3/4 of my tank getting to longreach 215 k away so I am guessing around 16 to the 100k got LPG at longreach filled the tank 65 litre as I am now a gas hoarder I travelled the first 50k home on fuel before switching over to gas did the next 160 ish on gas to home used 1/4 of a tank that's what around 17 ish per 160k all guesses here but I always thought gas was better

With a mix of mostly freeway I'm averaging 12.2L/100km so far, half a tank in. Before that I got as high as 16.0L/100km for mostly around town driving. (I've only done about 1000km in the XJ since buying it a couple months ago!).
I seem to remember from my last XJ that this sort of consumption is about right for a std 4.0 XJ like mine.
