Brag time - last month travelled the Canning Stock Route in our trusty KJ CRD, passing 210,000 km on trip. Challenging endless corrigations, but traversed the dunes with ease. Not surprisingly ours was the only Jeep (of any type) we saw. The only mechanical issue was chewing out both upper control arm/ boomerang bushes - despite these being replaced pre - trip.
We carried 120 litres extra diesel (200 L in total) as 980 km desert travel between fuel points - used 160 L so happy with 16l/100km for the conditions.
Returned to Melbourne via the Simpson Desert as we had enough time not to Black top it straight home - our KJ’s third Simpson crossing.
Hugely impressed by this car!
Like many on this forum, we love our KJ & are impressed by its abilities, but with its increasing age & our want to continue remote travel, when do we make the tough decision to move on & what to? For now, the KJ stays.
