3 months later, having used the Penrite ATF FS to flush and refill...
Happy to confirm the steering pump and box are all doing well.
($14.99/L at Supercheap - you could do it with 1L, I flushed it a couple of times while I was there and got through about 1.2)

I didn't want to disturb any joints, so I sucked the oil out of the reservoir using a hand oil transfer pump. You can wiggle a 1cm diameter pipe down to the bottom of the reservoir at the front of the bottle. Takes a bit of poking about but it will go.

I drove a bit to warm up the old oil, pumped it out, approx 400ml, filled it up, started the engine, idled and went lock to lock for about a minute. Then pumped it out and repeated the process.

No dramas really. I think both Supercheap and Repco have big % deals on oil this weekend for auto club RACV members too.

as far as what fluid to use,

the 2004 and 2005 FSM manuals I have both state to use Mopar ATF+4. so I guess that's what was used at the factory

same stuff if you have an auto.

doesnt mention power steering fluid even though the filler cap says "power steering fluid"
