Hi guys - just an update on this.

I ordered and replaced the crank position sensor on the top of the engine. fingers crossed after 5 tanks of fuel through the engine no stalling while driving / no cutting out and there has been no problem starting.

For us it seems to have been the problem.

It has been hard to track down as an intermittent fault and no fault codes thrown.

I pulled my hair out trying to find this - so hopefully of useful info to somebody else.

Good that you managed to solve this.
So where exactly is the sensor you replaced & appox cost / part number ?
Got a 2007 built 2.8CRD so obviously interested in case it happens on mine
