Thought I'd better come and finish my Jeep story.
On a trip home, during all this COVID crap,
I found myself once again at the mercy of the Jeep.
She'd been going fine for a few months and then ...
started to lose power again and the lighting bolt came on.
Just over 200km's from anywhere worth stopping,
the bluedriver was used to reset the computer and wait for the engine to cool down.
(turns out to be a faulty EGR valve)
As long as I didn't ask more than half throttle we could drive along fine.
So overtaking B doubles was out of the question.
Several hours later and now back on the bitumen,
the engine started thumping and banging,
the tacho needle jumping all over the place and a strong smell of diesel
The fuel filter sensor had split and blown diesel everywhere.
Waiting again for the engine to cool down,
I was able to get fuel line and bypass the filter all together.
After bleeding the fuel system, now the Jeep & I were both covered in diesel.
A kind cattleman who'd stopped to help, offered me 10 litres of water to clean myself and the engine.
Off we went again and this time managed to complete the trip home,
even if it was a slooow journey. What usually takes 9 to 10 hours,
had just taken over 15 hours.
So I parked the Jeep up in disgust.
After a week of considering my options,
I dragged the old VT wagon out and
finally fitted the L67 I've had in the shed.
Paid the rego on the commodore and
handed the Jeep's plates in.
Last weekend the Jeep went to it's new home.
I'm disappointed after all the time and money I've put into it,
but at the end of the day I need a
comfortable & reliable vehicle to travel long distances.
I'd like tot thank everyone for their friendship, advice, and encouragement
over the last 5 years, it's been great to be part of this forum.
And I hope you may all enjoy your Jeeps for many more years.
