Trust me I'd love to gear real deep but but this is the only mod so far where I have to be a little bit grown up with my choice! I live pretty much miles from anywhere worthwhile so I need to retain some highway drivability while also retaining some sort of half decent fuel usage. Maybe down the track I'll swap the T case out for something with lower gearing to compensate

I think we talked about this on your build post.

4.10/4.11 was only available on the tow pak option in Australia and very few were imported

This ^^, if I remember correctly from my previous investigations. I think you'll find 99% of 'em are 3.73.

Yeah thanks guys it's all sorted now. The diff I got has 3.73's but I only payed $150 for it so that's going to offset the price of a new set of gears for it! Hence I PM'd low ranger about the set he has for sale (always trying to save a dollar)
Cheers

I came across some information which may help clarify things further. I realise this thread is 5 years old but I figured it could help people in future!

The website below has technical specifications for Ford Explorers imported into Australia from 1996 to 2001...

https://www.automobile-catalog.com/m...agon/2001.html

Reading through it you'll see that 3.73 gears were standard for all year models, manual and auto, however 4.10 gears were optional on the Limited spec models (which appear to only have come in automatic).
