Trying to upload the book for it as a pdf file . Not sure if it will work....it seems to be uploading but very slow . Hmm...came back as "Invalid File" upload .
Had a look and yes you are right .Low oil pressure will bring up the Check Gauges light but not the Check Engine light . Could not find any specific answer for you Check Engine light .PCM brings it up according to inputs from sensors and not sure but could be even light globes, ABS ?? Being in Europe as I understand , therefore an european version of XJ maybe it would have oxigen sensors on the cat (due to stricter emission controls ) that would need to be checked . Not much else that I can think of for know .

All sems like posible resons exept the abs because I have a seperate light for that, but I would really like to have some idea what it could be before instead of just searching in the dark. But if I don’t get a better answer I will start looking over these when I get home in a few days. Thanks anyway for some ideas.

You've mentioned that as soon the car starts to move it brings up the"Check engine" light . Does the light comes on once the engine is started and the car is still in neutral just standing ???
My XJ has no oxigen sensors on the cat and no ABS sensors on the wheels (being made for Australia probably wasn't required).
Different tire size on wheels could bring up a fault but I would think it would be the ABS light that would come one in that case .
I would say have a look at any sensors on the engine and try to clean them and see how you go .
There would be also the crankshaft sensor above the flywheel that can cause issues if wirring or sensor damaged or loose . Timing signal would be missing or not the right shape or intermitent and the PCM will drop in to a safe mode running on a different mapping .
Dirt can build up on that sensor also and affect the signal . Pull it out and wiped off and see if any better .

Default Codes

Hi,

Codes for '95 and '96 are for the older diesel cherokees. Diesel XJ only came to Aus with the '97 update.

FWIW from my diagnostic manual for a 97 to '01 XJ diesel code TC24 is check engine light 'circuit fault' and code TC27 is "EEROM checksum fault" - "faulty MSA controller"

Not sure these are relevant for your pre-1997 models
