you might be surprised. revving a bit higher doesnt seem to affect the fuel usage as much as you think.
if there is no additional load on the engine, effectivly it can just spin 'freely'
you might even find you get cooler engine temps due to improved fluid circulation
just try driving around in a lower gear for a bit, see what it does to your fuel use.
There will be a point where the engine is revving so high that does affect fuel, but as long as you're under 2200 or so, you should see a similar useage
also, reving lower, doesnt always mean less fuel usage. It's all about how much fuel needs to be injected to maintain the RPM
