Default Power Steering in WH (2007)

Had my power steering pump and hose replaced on my diesel WH (2007). Mechanic commented that there was no change at first after installation but it got better with use - so now its just about back to normal.
He figured it was either some air bleed issue that sorted itself out or the computer relearning the new part. Any thoughts anyone?
We did notice the fluid tank was a bit hot - is this normal?
We're hoping there's no other part that we need to consider replacing on the system? (He is a diesel specialist - not jeep )
Thanks for any input!

By the way anyone know why they call it WH here in Oz and Wk in USA?
And best place to source parts in Oz please?
Cheers
Steve

Hope he didn't put Power steering fluid in it, they use hydraulic fluid.

Hi Steve.
WH is just Jeep's designation for an export 2005-2010 Grand Cherokee. It was made in Austria not America.

Is your cooling fan working ok? It is operated by the power steering pump so best to check.

I have read that it is best to fill using a vacuum pump after a pump renewal. It would seem though that your man has managed ok.

Like others have said, did your man use hydraulic fluid and not atf?

Sorry for late reply and thanks to all for input. Yes I did check it out and he did use the right fluid. However power steering still only about 50% of what it was - fine on the open road but still a bit stiff when doing low speed turns. Have driven over 300 k since it was done. Is there anything I can do now to improve it? Not sure whether a vacuum pump was used when it was refilled.
