Might still be the swirl motor and a dodgy resistor.
Best to pull the old resistor, clean all terminals and replace with another resistor of the correct value and correct spot. It may of got corroded, bad connection or broken down.
Even get one of those emulators off Ebay that does the swirl motor trick.
