Default Noise from offside front wheel.

Hi.
My WH CRD has developed a noise from what sounds like front, offside wheel area.

I can only hear it when window is down and i drive past something that reflects the noise.

It is a pulsing, tchh tchh tchh noise that increases and decreases in time with vehicle speed. The noise does not go away when i brake. It does go away when i take a right hand bend. It then returns when going straight again.

Any ideas? Wheel bearing? Front CV joint?

Sorry if i have described it poorly, but i hope you get the idea of what is happening.

Thanks guys.

Does the sound get worse when on full lock? that was hub bearings for me. Sound was more of a "clack" than a "tch" New hub assembly cured it.

Cheers,

Hi Mace1
I will try it on full lock. It definitely stops when taking a bend.

It will be the original bearing that is in there so it has done over 100,000 miles. The hub renewal does not look to be an overly expensive job.

Could be a wheel bearing. Mine made a wooba wooba noise while driving. Sounded like a mud terrain tyre. You could just wait for it to slowly get worse.
May also be the front drive shaft CV, which can make strange noises. I would look around and get prices on a couple of sealed hub units and a CV. Down the track do all at the same time.

Cheers,

Hi Alex.
Does not sound like a bearing. I have had bearing noise on different cars in the past.

It makes the noise once every revolution of the wheel. At first, i though it was a pad touching at one point of the disc. Noise does not go away if i put brakes on though.

You are right , i will just have to see how it progresses.

Hi.
Quick update.

Turns out the front brakes were stuffed. Lower piston on one caliper was seized and the pad was nearly on its metal backplate. Garage said that my brakes had not seen any attention for years. New set of Atec discs and pads fitted and all is well. Fitted the turbo resonator at same time too.

Bear in mind that my Jeep has full dealer history. Had major service in October 2021. They are not doing what they are paid to do.
