In response to the question of whether the Provent will prevent the hoses from rupturing...
As i understand it, the main problem is the exposure of the turbo hoses to the oily fumes.
The oil degrades the hose material and causes the hose to weaken. Pressure, heat and the cyclic stresses on the hose hastens the weakening... eventually, the hose will get to the point where it cannot withstand the design pressure and the hose will rupture.
Having spoken to a turbo service mob, it's unlikely that the intercooler will block sufficiently to cause a massive overpressure. Having said that, there's been a few reported incidents on the forum of the the turbo hose popping off the intercooler fitting - maybe the clamp was too loose?
My CRD had 130K on the clock before the turbo-intercooler hose ruptured. The hose was weeping an oily film all over (on the outside) and the inside was greasy black. Before the rupture you could clearly see the hose swelling in size (by a good few cms in diameter) when the accelerator was applied. I cleaned the outside of the hose a few times, but within a few hours operation it would be oily again. Obviously the hose was saturated with oil. When i got a new hose, i fitted a Provent. 5000K later, the Provent is catching a whole heap of oil and the inside of the new turbo hose is only slightly oily.
I still have the original intercooler-inlet hose - it's oily all over and swells. So i'm sure it's only a matter of time before that ruptures too!
I think though, that I may just replace the busted hose with SS piping and new silicone end pieces. I was at Enzed yesterday and they had a whole heap of turbo silicone bits and pieces. In fact - it's prob a good idea for me to get my ... into gear and do this BEFORE the hose fails in some remote location (like it did the last time!!)
