I haven't been able to find any data on the Apex+ oil actually but you are right, my eyes roll back ....... the API or ACEA is good enough for me .....

Specs aside.....I've also noticed engine is noisier using Penrite Enviro 5W-40. IMO Shell Rotela 5W-40 is the best oil I've used but very hard to find these days.

Be interesting to find out what the specs on the nulon Apex + heavy duty diesel oil is. According to Nulon it out spec’s most other oils hence diesel truck fleets are using it alot.
Im not sure why, but ive read a few people suggesting the same as me,noticed when using the Penrite oil, the engine is definitely noisier than some others.

This thread is degenerating into a typical "oil" thread!
When posts make people sound like industrial chemists working for oil companies, my eyes glaze over.
Quoting properties that are not relevant to the climate or conditions in Australia makes it clear that someone is copying & pasting from marketing information.
When people comment on lubricating oil base stock, I wonder if they have any knowledge of such substances. Having worked for Exxon-Mobil many years ago, even briefly worked as a process engineer in a lubricating oil base stock plant & having a little knowledge of Paramins produced by them at that time, I find some of the comments at best entertainment.
People will have their personal preferences to certain brands for whatever reason.
Exceeding a property limit by a lot is not always a good thing. There are often down sides to the use of most additives. The trick is often to add enough to achieve what is needed and dont overdo it. Having test results way over what has been set as a minimum may suggest that there is that much product variation that they need to set their target so high so that all product meets the spec.
The snake oil salesmen do very well out of oil additives!!!

My standard oil check list:
1. Does it meet the specs ?
2. Available everywhere ?
3. Suits my Budget ?
Nothing more needed.... and if some supposed identity says its great stuff, I look at it as a turn off, you know what I mean.

Like ex cricket players recommending solar panels & air conditioners & ex news readers recommending solar hot water systems.
More recently an ex AFL player who has gone broke at least once, recommending accountants. He has just opened up a brothel!! For a while he was a lollypop lady!

All relevant points. I have no idea as to the formula and dynamics of engine oils but as mentioned, the spec’s the manufacturer specify are a good place to start.
All i can say is having used a few different oils in the Jeep, my litmus test is how the engine runs and feels and sounds.
