He reckons he is putting a deposit down on a new 300 series landcruiser.
Its a 12 month wait plus he is getting a suspension upgrade which has to be done at the factory to compliant ??
The new one only comes out with a v6 diesel, no more v8s

Fair choice. Wait times for most 300 models have come down a fair bit, so hopefully it's nothing like the 12mo he was quoted.
A few teething issues with the 300, like any new vehicle, but overall looking pretty good so far in. Haven't seen any engines give up yet - just a few DPF injector issues, squeaky brakes, turbo flutter, and they like to drink oil.
You're talking a GVM upgrade, not just new shocks and springs? Pre-registration GVM upgrade means that it applies nationally. If it's done post-rego then it only applies to the state its first registered in and, if next sold to a buyer in a different state, would have to be re-assessed for compliance for a few grand. There was a time where pushing it to >3999kg GVM meant that it was exempt from LCT, but I believe that loophole has been closed...

Mate did that with his 79 series, straight off the boat decent suspension along with a chassis stretch to move rear axle back 500mm and widen the rear axle so tracks match, then over the pits for Compliance, can carry and tow well above the standard rigs and its a brilliant thing to drive, makes the stockies feel like tractors, by the time it had the plate fitted it had travelled 6,000kkm on the back of a truck though.....
Final bill was $150K . .....

Had look at the next door neighbours ram today prior to the dealers picking it up.
You can see the separation gap between the cab and the tray.
He reckons when you tow it flexes open even wider.
Somthing to do with the chassis around the rear wheels . Evidently you can get some sort of strengthening kit for them but he’s not bothering as hes had enough!
