Angry Hemi 6.4L Lifter Problem

Hello. I have a 2014 GC Overland diesel and my son a 2014 GC SRT with the 6.4L Hemi. Unfortunately, the Hemi has developed the known issue of roller lifter failure on cylinder 2 and even more unfortunately, I took it to our local Jeep dealer to have it diagnosed and costed for repair. The lifter has failed and scored the camshaft. They want $18,000 for a new long motor and offer no alternative due to "possibility of metal shavings in the engine and they are not able to replace the camshaft as it is too involved". I owe them over $1000 just for that info! It is currently sitting at the dealer with it's head removed.

Does anyone know of a mechanic, preferably north of the river in Perth (but not necessarily) that I could have the vehicle towed to and have the lifters and crankshaft replaced?
ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

You may find a lot of repair shops won’t be interested in a cam and lifter change only because of warranty concerns due to the wear metal circulating in the oil system.

Default Metal filings

Thankyou for reply Classic. You’re probably right. Fortunately I’ve come across a couple now that will do it and reckon the chances of any metal filings doing anything is very slim as most if not all are caught in filters and oil changes. They apparently flush the engine and change oil, filters, etc. One said he has done more than 10 of these now and has never had one come back or have damage issues from filings…so fingers crossed…

If this is a well serviced 6.4 GC hemi lay a complaint with Stellantis Jeep !This is a known failure problem in all variations of the hemi motor! Some owners who have threatened legal had got new motors! So common are these failures there is a class action underway in the US ,Google class action re Chrysler hemi lifter failures!
Current estimated failure rate up 20%. Ring Dontex in Melbourne who repair around more than one a week ! Also note just because a new crate motor is installed or the motor is reconditioned it will not stop lifter failures happening again! Most failures happen around 60000 ks up. My view on a re rebuild,!I have rebuilt many race and road engines over the years, not stripping the motor down completely after a failure like this is bs!

That is not good to hear. That is a lot of money quoted by the dealer ouch.

I have dealt with Bruno from Jeep Autoworx in Malaga, Perth. He knows his Jeeps so maybe give him a ring and see what they can do? Hoping they could repair it for much lesser but sounds like a very labor intensive job. All the best mate.

The Hemi's are a great engine...except for the failures. Bit like the VM diesel?

Agree bjm...in the same 'boat' when it comes to having rebiult lots of engines for varying reasons...a FULL pull down and rebiuld is the ONLY solution for a failure like this.
Stellantis are fully aware of it.
A crate engine isnt the solution...however nice that may 'feel'.
Definition of 'madness' is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.
