Jim, Jim, Jim - I agree.
My rating after 25+ years of off (and on)-roading? About 4+
I say that because I am always learning things about the skills of driving.
What makes you feel inadequate is when you go to a defensive driving course thinking you can't be taught anything - you know how to drive with the best of 'em - and then realize you know stuff all about the skill when doing the course.
Skills maintainence is what gets you there and back. Read, train, learn. Get trained. It will open your eyes.
Driver training is THE most potent weapon in preventing death and injury on (and off) our roads.
rant over.
