Default What does the trip computer do??

well what does it do??

and how hard would it be to whack one in a diesel that doesn't have one standard??

I live in Hervey Bay, Jeeprecyclers is about 5 minutes away, and haven't they got some stuff lying around! I'm guessing that I could get all the neccesary parts without too much drama!

What Jeep you got, Chopper?

A couple of weeks ago I installed one into my '04 KJ, and almost everything works (Everything except for the temperature). I picked it up off E-bay US for US$60. Take a look at this website for some details:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jsalbre/jeep/evic

It comes with these features:
* compass
* temperature
* ave. fuel consumption
* 2nd trip meter
* trip timer
* distance to empty
* distance to next service (configurable)

It also allows you to set some of the BCM features, like headlight timeout, whether the keyless remote unlocks all doors or just the drivers door, etc.

Unfortunately it doesn't come with other funky features available on some trip computers, like remaining trip distance and estimated time of arrival.

Basically, you just need to run a +12V, an Acc, and a PCI wire up one of the pillars, and plug it all in. As the website says, make sure you have the premium BCM (body control module) - if you have keyless entry, foglights or steering wheel audio controls, you have the premium BCM.

The distance to empty seems to be pretty accurate, even though I have installed a long range tank. It understates my distance to empty by about 200km, because my fuel guage reads empty with around 25 litres of diesel in the tank.

The consumption figure is measured continually, and averaged out, and between refills is usually within 1l/100km of my calculated numbers.
