74CJ6 if the J10 you had had the lifting rings on it did it also have a Ramsey winch and maybe lockers in the diffs (front and rear detroits)? If so it was the one sent out by AM General for Jeep Australia to copy for the armys Project Perentie. I know the guy you probably got it off (John) and the owners before that. It was owned by a family in the QLD Jeepers before it came to Sydney. John fitted the CJ grill and the lockers when he owned it. He also had a canopy on it which had been taken off when I last saw it in the Blue Mountains. I haven't seen it for years though. I think it was always red. They were lifting rings, so it could be air lifted as you suspected. The autos I'm told were very rare, your old one was possibly the only original auto imported. The 3 or 4 Perentie ones were built here with autos and a couple may have been built as a customer request by the factory. Good luck with your search.

that is the one it had the ramsey winch nd i took the canopy off after i bought it. it was a very old canopy looked like it was made from a colourbod or something similar.... it had a rear detroit locker but when i got it the front diff was without gears.. i got it from the car yard opposite penrith library... i really would like to track it down..
