Time to do the other jeep in the family now M8.Have you removed the padding from the roll bar. I see some scratches appeareing from the lid scraping the bar work. Clark rubber have some edging that you can put around the cut out to prevent that. As far as locking it goes the most secure way i would think is to attatch to the car body near where the roll cage finishes a thick gauge plate of steel with a hole in the top of it so when you close the door the top of the plate (section with a hole in it) pokes out the top allowing you to padlock it shut. On the end of the cage there is a hole and i think there is a thread in it. You could bolt the plate to that.
BTW Tommo where did you get the cheque plate from? It didnt cost much.

The plate came from Dandenong but you can get it at any one of about 10 different places I found. The cheapest was Williamstown steel who sold a bit twice as big as you need for about $100. Incidently, if you want to go Alloy plate instead, it's $200 for the same size bit.

The padding is off the rollbar.
The scratches occured during construction, but it doesn't scratch or rub now that it's all put together and bolted down. I did get some rubber edging stuff and tried it on, but it looked stupid so I took it off again.

Oooh. A bit of plate underneath the big gap behind the roll bar... with a bit more weatherproofing stuff... this would also allow me to waterproof that area without using a material/velcro boot!

I'm on to it now.

Did it. It's still drying, but it looks like it's going to work perfectly. And no velcro required.
The lid closes down on top of the pre-placed waterproof plate.

Oh, and yes, the mrs decided it needed more pink, so the top is orange (when it's closed), and the bottom is pink - when it's open to put stuff in, and for when the dogs are in the back.

So that's about it. Might a couple of handles on the lid to make it easier to open from the top, and to give it more tie-down positions. Maybe some more orange - but I'm used the the orange-camo pattern now so I might leave it till it's a bit scratched up first.

Might do the side steps orange to match when I put the checker plate on them.

I would just like to state for the record, that the top will soon be pink not orange when Mr Fugly Fab goes to sleep one night.
He got me into Bunnings today under false pretences...I was told I was able to spray it all pink...pfffft....I should have known better.

The dogs love it and I think its pretty neat too for a guy who cant use a washing machine or doesnt know where the kitchen sink is located...but give him some steel and a few tools and he can rack one of these up in a few days.

But in saying that - my jeep is staying untouched.

Mrs Fugly Fab
