Default newbi, just bought a grand cherokee from gold coast

hey everyone, my names luke, im from the gold coast. just bought my 1st jeep. its a 96 jeep grand cherokee limited. 1st can some1 tell me whether its a zj or a zg? im very happy with it although im fastly finding out that a 4" lift is going 2 be costly. my mate has a normal cherokee with a 4" lift and 31" muddies and we went out today at pac pines and i went everywhere he did (mines standard) except for thru some of the muddier areas i got stuck, so im quite happy with that. if anybody knows of quick lift tricks or things that will help me out when im out 4wding please let me no. tomorrow ill be taking the stabilizer bar out for a bit more flex. another quiery i have... im thinking bout getting coil spacers until i can afford about 2000 for the suspension lift. are these any good? and also can i put the coil spacers in once i have the new lifted suspension in to lift it that bit higher again? thanx in advance for any help or advice u offer. c u's out 4wding. CANT WAIT FOR JEEP JAMBOREE...

also another question. im looking at getting a rubicon express 4.5" lift. but in doing that i need a slip yoke eliminator and transfer case packer... apparently. true or false? ive heard u can get away with out it for a 4.5" lift but wouldnt go any higher.

All RHD MY1996 to MY1998 Grand Cherokees are ZGs. All ZJs were built in the US - we didn't get any of them.
Most people just call them ZJs - definitely better to do so if you're trying to buy parts from the US because they certainly won't have a clue what a ZG is.

You dont need a SYE and a Tcase packer, it's one or the other. There's no way you'll get anywhere near 4.5" without vibrations if you dont put in an SYE, 2" is about the limit for most maybe 3". You may get away with dropping the tcase but budget for the SYE.

Cheers and welcome.

Most of the US owners put a 2" coil spacer in for a quick lift, it's quite common (taller shocks of course). The springs in the GC are quite good. If going taller later I'd opt for all springs.
You can fit 31's on your GC (just) with the 2" spacers.
Hope you enjoy it and welcome.

actually i just finished talking 2 a guy thats gunna do the work 4 me and we're going 2 put an older, bigger and tougher transfer case out of an older cherokee (older then xj) in which case i shouldnt (hopefully) need either sye or t case packer. c how things work out. also will need the panhard rod modified from lhd to rhd. and new front tail shaft made up. lots of work and money involved.. but hopefully should be a good result.
