I found the same sort of thing with the D35 - but since this threaded steel plug is replacing a plastic grommet I think it is all a dead set no brainer and of little consequence. As the threads are tapered they should seal where-ever they stop; and since they are only holding oil back from 'splashing' out at no pressure I doubt you would need thread sealent even if they only went in a couple of turns. So long as they are tight enough so they don't drop out on the road.
