Default Our maiden voyage

We finally got our beast a little dirty. A trip down to South east SA - South west Victoria. Beautiful country - Lower Glenelg is a very serene paradise.
As for the Jeep - it didnt miss a beat. Towed a 1600kg van with 4 pax at 110 kmh with no issues. 4WD in the dunes with stock standard factory tires and no lift with no issues. At one point the driver got us into a 'sticky situation' but the car got us out. Over the whole trip we averaged 17 l/100k
Here are some photos.

Glad to see you had a fun time. They go really well on the sand. I never thought we were going to get stuck at any time when we were on Fraser last year (though I was a bit nervous to start with).

If you cut your speed down to around 100kms, you may find a noticeable fuel saving (if you care about this).

I certainly felt that we would always get to where we were going (even if the wife didnt always agree!)

Does that extra 10 kms make that much difference? But I thought that 17 was fairly good, and we got to where we were going 3-6 minutes quicker!

And one day Taser - you will see exactly what it can do. Prepare to be surprised. It will make that TJ of yours gasp in amazement!

Its amazing how much our fuel consumption seems to vary at times. On our drive home from jambo last year, via Alice Springs etc, we had one tank where we were on 18 and another where we were on 14.5. Generally, we seem to average around 15.5, but tuck yourself in behind a truck on the freeway and watch the fuel consumption drop. Because there's no gear change over 100kms/hr, I'm just always surprised by how quickly the revs go up. Sitting on 100kms/hr seems to have me right on 2000rpm, but at 110 the revs seem to go up a fair bit.
At the end of the day, you're probably only paying an extra $5 per tank doing the extra speed, so if it doesn't worry you then there's no problem.
As our tyres are an inch bigger than standard (and ATs), this would also probably effect our fuel consumption in a negative way. However, our van is a bit lighter than yours, at around 1300kgs
Now just get yourself the 110 litre aux tank that goes in the stock wheel well and you'll be able to go all day.
