I read A thread A few weeks ago asking if anyone had made Mudflap hangers for the rear of A TJ.
I've just finished making up A set for mine which I think look pretty good. Thought I'd share it, mite give you some
idea's if nothing else!
Simple really,
I removed the front tow bar mount bolt on both sides, measured how far back I needed the hanger to sit.
Then cut some 5mm plate to size.
I lined mine up so it would sit just inside and below the rear flare. Remembering to leave 5mm or so in case
the body flex's.
I marked the top edge of my tow bar on the plate and welded A plate on the rear as A tag to stop it turning.
I used 1' box steel cut to length and capped the ends. The Jeep isn't square in the rear so I found I had to bend
then up a little then adjust the mud flaps to square it up!
Holding the hanger in place I marked were the holes for the flaps needed to be, laid them on the ground and
drilled the holes. Painted then in A under body black paint for strength, including a thin steel strip to support
the flaps. Then loosely screwed the flaps on, replaced the tow bar bolt through the hanger and tighten them.
Adjusted the flaps to fill the gap and sit even, then tightened!
I used Black self tappers but for quick release they is A number of plastic fasteners, wing nuts eta would do the job!
I found with mine I can slip the flap over on rear bumper out of harms way when off road.
Also if you don't have a tow bar you could use A U bolt or plate around your sub frame to bolt the hanger to
I had someone neater than me weld the scrap, bought plan black flaps from A truck accessory shop
for 8.95 each.(12-14') Bringing the hole job to about $50, $20 if you have the scrap and paint!
