Hey Bugz, gratz on the new jk. I got my very first 4wd in July (2dr petrol jk). I'd never been off road before. I went on a basic 4wding course and it was the best thing I could have done. You learn all the basics and it gives you confidence in your new car. Then tag along on some trips with local 4wd/jeep clubs, the experienced guys in the club will give you heaps of advice. They can also help you avoid/get out of trouble.

I'm still driving mine stock while I save for some tyres/lift etc, and I'm amazed at how well it performs. I love my Jeep! Have fun with it...

Yep - do a course. I believe MJOC do it as part of the membership.

Get some decent tyres and try and go a little bigger for a little more clearance, even if it's just 1" bigger. The unlimited obviously has a longer wheel base than the 2 door meaning your going to want to get it up off the ground. A lift will help get the "belly" up higher, and bigger tyres will help get your axles up higher.

...and keep reading on this forum and asking lots of questions.

Bugz , Sonik is right. We (mjoc) do 4wd credited training and its included in your membership. On another note you will be surprised how good the JK is offroad in stock form with a bit of experience behind the wheel.
Ne need to wait till you do the lift and tyres. If you join MJOC you can do the training over and over again. Then there is advanced driver traing too.
Just Do It M8.
Cheers

If you're looking at A/T's then consider Cooper ST's. They are an aggressive A/T

If I lived anywhere near Melbourne - I'd be a member of MJOC.
