There should be a switch to cut out the engine if you depress the clutch pedal with the cruise control on it may be something to do with this

right john, just looked up service manual. the wiring connector going to the clutch master cylinder, actually plugs into a plastic thing on the side of the cylinder. that plastic thing is in fact the clutch pedal postion switch, and is the thing that prevents you starting the engine without pressing the clutch in. there is an over ride relay for this thing in the power distribution centre whch allows you to start the vehicle with foot off clutch in low range. if you play around with this make sure you cancel any codes or the over ride function in low range will not operate. mate it is just a guess but i'd say you have a fault in the pedal position switch. according to the manual it simply prises off the side of the master cylinder. (but i haven't tried nor am i saying you should just to protect myself from any comebacks) just repeating what the manual says. this is probably a very simple fix, new switch required. the dealer or an auto sparky may be able to activate the isolator solenoid in the meatime to bypass the switch till you get a new one. cheers mate, hope we've solved it.

just to finish off tis thing, other members of the forum have reported flashing lights and windscreen wipers coming on as a result of faulty batteries. is possible that the faulty switch causes a voltage drop in the ignition circuit which simulates the drop in voltage from a faulty battery, causing the wipers and lights fault, and power loss. all this will probably fix itself when a new switch is fitted. please let us know how you get on as this is intriguing. hope i haven't made a goose of myself here, but it seems a pretty obvious solution from here on the other side of australia having not even seen the vehicle. lol.
