Your part number, which is visible on a sticker on the metal case of the PCM, without removing the black plastic cover will be 56041 in small numbers, then 3 BIG numbers.
For a '96, these may be 282, 200, and 293 (I think)
It has been reported to me that only a compatible '96 PCM will work in a '96, as pre 96 are OBD1, and 97 and later have both an immobiliser, and an expectation of connection to the transmission..(a '96 trans is not controlled by PCM)
If you put your part number into Google, it will take you to USA vendors that x-reference compatible part numbers, I think they are about $200 US
The guy i bought mine off might have had another I think, will try and look him up
