What codes are being thrown at you?
Is your check engine light being illuminated?
Do you know how to pull out manually on the 97?

Nah, it never threw any codes, also l when the first NSS failed. Nil checkengine lights, so I've come to learn to expect no guidance from it.
Haven't been to the Jeep the last days, since it now seems solved bypassing the NSS. It's not my daily driver so no hurry. Plan to do some continuity testing over the NSS when I get to it. I don't think it's all gummed up in there this time, it just hasn't seen much driving done, especially no 4WD. Think more towards the grounding wiring itself.

Not sure with what you mean with pulling out manually?

oh, tried that in the past. But in all honesty, it has rarely given me any help in the past, that check engine light. Even with the occasional decent issues, it would not come on.

Codes sometimes get generated but mostly dont (at least in my case). So I just learned to go without them.

I have reached the same conclusion. They are a good general guide.

With my TJ I think some codes like the P0298 which occasionally comes up is an ECU thing. Nothing actually wrong, but ECU has an infrequent freak out for no good reason.
