All manufacturers have their share of issues, the VM2.8 started off well, but it appears to be developing its share of issues ( and threads ) down the track.
The old 3.8 just keeps plodding along, it had a number of early assembly issues ( IIRC crankshaft bearings ), but failure posts aren't at all common.
The 3.6 also had its teething issues ( cylinder heads ) but its way to early to know how well it will last.
I think the surprise for 2.8 owners is the costs of maintenance and repair - there is an expectation that a diesel will last forever and that isn't always valid with modern "high speed" diesel engines.
