Just did a return trip with new O2 sensors and back to a paper air filter from a KN. Went Sydney/Thredbo/Sydney abt 1000klms. Fuel economy improved dramaticaly in the WG. Got down to low 11's/100. Big difference from 13/14 per 100klm. Just need to see if the city economy has improved as well. I note that doing 110ks/h does use a lot more fuel than just doing a steady 100k/h.
After installing the 4 x O2 Sensors and going back to a paper air filter from a K&N oil filter, my economy has improved dramatically. Highly recommend it. At least it will save me some cost with petrol going only up
Having a WG, you most likely already have the O/D reflash. Its a software upgrade for the 99-2000 WJ's which came with a 4 speed transmission. The 5th gear was in the tranny, but was not actuated - due to bugs in the software. The 'reflash' actuates this gear, enabling the 5th gear. Its done at a Jeep dealership (whole other issue in finding one that does it), from anywhere from $75-$180.
As I understand it, all WG's came standard with all 5 gears. You will be at roughly2000rpm @ 110km/h if you have it - 2500rpm without. If you are not sure, count the gear changes. With this gear enabled freeway/highway driving is quieter & obviously more economical.
I take note of this with interest. Does this O/D reflash applicable to WJ's with I-6 engine?
