Because it's not about safety, it's about the RTA protecting its business model. The RTA, like many other governement departments, no longer serves the public interest and has become a money making venture with profits being the motivation behind every decision. Sydney Water recently increased its service charges because profits had dried up (excuse the pun) as homeowners were conserving water use, the end result is that we use much less water but pay the same.

So with the RTA when the money from fines drops because people are obeying the law they need to introduce new laws to catch those who are not aware of the changes and then fine them with a vengeance. This is also the motivation behind the vast array of speed zone changes and the reduction of residential speed limits from 60 to 50 and now discussion to drop them to 40km/h.

Also there is an entire industry of politicians, bureaucrat, civil servants and lawyers who make money off these changes.
[/end rant]

Hi guys,

Just chasing some feedback/opinions..

I have a CRD JK SWB and am looking at upgrading suspension for added height and putting some bigger tyres on in the (hopefully near) future.

After doing some reading, I'm looking at:

King Springs (40-50mm - KJFR-32, KJRR-35)
EFS: http://www.efsstore.com.au/JK-Wrangler.html ($360 a pair) or Rancho RS5000 Shocks: http://www.rancho.com.au/jk-wrangler.html

I am wanting to do it for the best price, but not nasty cheap. I've read bad things about what happens when you go cheap and it can be a very costly exercise! There is a bit of a difference between the 2 and am just wanting opinions on what would be best. It is my every day car and I also take it off road.. sand, dunes and soon to be taking it to mud. So a bit of both I suppose.

My brother recommended the EFS and I got a quote from APE Suspensions in Perth, using King Springs, EFS shocks and an alignment for $1,300 fitted (The quote was using EFS or Raw shocks). I've included Rancho in the possibilities just from the reviews I've read.

Thanks,
Samantha

Site member JeepTheOne had EFS on his 4 door prior to lifting it higher and he really liked it.

The problem with buying suspension for your car is it is a 2 door diesel. Most suspension kits are for the 2 door petrol. Most resellers will tell you there's bugger all difference between them but there IS enough of a difference to take notice of it and the GOOD resellers will know all about it! Credit points to EFS for having different coils to suit the different vehicle specifications.

If you are looking for just a very mild lift with no driveline issues or steering issues the 40mm EFS is probably not a bad option. If you're looking for more than this or getting the most suspension travel you can out of the vehicle then it is not for you.

Hardest part is picking what you want. There's so much out there.

The guy I spoke to at APE said EFS was better, but Raw is more popular because of the colours.. He was pretty helpful, actually asking the specs of my car, what's fitted, etc.

EFS & Kings have springs for each SWB/LWB and fuel type. The problem is there are too many to choose from and its an expensive choice to make a mistake on! But I'll be going with Kings, can get them for $189 a pair, although I've found them online for around $160 which I'm waiting to hear back on.

I'm hoping for a 2" lift so I can put some other tyres on there (Looking at AT 285/75/16's, purely because I drive it to work everyday etc). I don't mind too much about the way it currently drives, if anything the steering annoys most and firming up the bouncy castle would be nice

I can get all 4 Rancho Shocks for $500 and EFS for $560. I just want to make sure I'm comparing apples to apples. And whether anyone has had any good, bad or ugly with either of them before I go ahead with it!

I think you would be looking at 285 70R 17's for tyres as you will have STD 17" rims. Unless you are changing your wheels with the tyres then you may need to check brake calliper clearance dropping to 16".
Nice looking 2 door by the way.

Coils...yeh, well, they're all going to be pretty similar in this category so its whatever you feel works for you.

I totally would NOT buy ranchos to save $60. Rancho 5000 series are cheap and nasty shocks that are WAY over priced in australia.

The EFS solution is sold as a package so you'd hope it would all work together.

Thanks 4WD4FUN & Yom.

I was planning on changing the rims as well and just selling my set. Nothing wrong with the originals and I suppose the smarter (?) thing would be to wait until they die and need replacing, but I'm too impatient. Will check the brakes out too, thanks for the heads up!

I did see Rancho's were sold on a US site for just under $50 a shock, fairly big upmarket for here in Aus. I'm leaning towards EFS now.
