Aus delivers xj's come with two trans heat exchangers as stock. One in the radiator one infront of the rad on the drivers side it is black.
Thermostat fan kicks in at 105*c on obd1 xj's. on obd 2 I believe it kicks in a couple of degree earlier. I read somewhere that this can be changed . Also a stock thermostat opens at 91*c. If you are driving around at 80*c you are causing excessive wear in the engine.

Ahhh okay sick.

Okay, well my gauge may be out because it could be sitting at around 90 (85on gauge) odd and doing its thing at 105 deg (IE when the gauge says 100...

Yeah sounds like a pain, similar to doing the LHS engine mount where the AC compressor needed to be unbolted just to get the damned bolt out... I reversed the bolt-nut on the new mount when I put it back in..... far more intuitive...

I'll be careful with the lower rad hose though, if it looks fine I'll leave it
I am a fan of cooling an Auto through the radiator first to take the brunt of the heat out and then through a cooler. Others may disagree.

In the '95 the dash temp gauge uses a different sensor than the pcm.
A actron 9690 scanner will read codes and give real time info on what the pcm /engine is doing on a obd1 jep

The OBD2 pre-updates use the same set up as the OBD1, same sensor too!!
