Kim, I think it is a Dowel (from the Parts Fiche):

DOWEL, Front Cover, (NOT
SERVICED

It does not have a part number (which explains its Not Serviced designation). In other words you can't order one. As to where it goes, the drawing shows it near the tensioner, and (my assumption) it maybe a locking pin for the tensioner spring. If you have a copy of the drawing please have a look. The Service Manual shows the spring arm locked against something that could be the pin (unless there is a casting that is part of the block). Check to see if there is a hole that fits it near the tensioner mounting hole (in about the 11pm position to the mounting hole for the tensioner bolt). Best I can do for you.

Ok has 2 try's at putting timing belt on, but is tricky to get everything lined after a few revolutions. Haven't get time to finish now, back into it tonight. I'll read some of the forums again for some tips, I remember reading about a method to cater for this.

Major setback. I couldn't get all the gears times perfectly, I realized I didn't do the correct procedure, I put the camshaft sprockets on and torqued them before the timing belt and now due to the teeth spacing on sprockets the camshaft timing pin holes dont line up perfectly.

And even worse one of my camshaft pins broke off inside the rocker cover, so I am taking cover off again to fetch it.

Then I should be right, due to my trial and errors I know the correct procedure now.

Problem right now is I can't get one f the camshaft sprockets off, the sprocket is turning while I hold it with special tool as I try too loosen the retaining bolt. I figured a rattle gun would do the job, but compressor is not I too scratch so might have to go buy a new compressor!! Any other idea how to remove camshaft sprocket retaining bolt, is rattle gun best bet.

I have retrieved the piece of broken pin from within rocker cover, put back together an followed the timing procedure from 9-56 of workshop manual. Worked perfectly first time, should have read it more closely in first place.

So right now I
Am very confident with the timing, rotated engine manually 12 revolutions and everything matches up perfect.

Few other bit to put on then I can try and start It up.

One pending question, do I have to put accessory belt and fan on before I try a quick engine start?

Maybe not the fan but I'd put the accessory belt on mainly to avoid the confusion of multiple warning lights on start up.
