Question

I will post up a template soon once I re measure. No dramas running them with the cv's yet but I broke a transfer case a few weeks back while offroading (worth 7k to repair). The first one to blow a t-case in Australia the dealer recons, but covered under warranty of course. I'm pretty sure it happened due to a lot of extreme offroading where rear wheel traction is high (low pressure muddies on rock) fronts in the air and flooring it for too long on too many occasions overheating the clutch pack but hey that's why we buy jeeps to take them offroad.

Hi Nicholas,

Interesting about the transfer case.

I had mine lockup on me a while ago whilst off-road and when I took it back to the dealer the mechanic stripped it and said the motor was damaged. He managed to free it up and subsequently ordered a new one for me which was covered under warranty.

Since the replacement I've not had any issues with the transfer case, it performed well up at Cape York!

Kev.

Shit... Righto wow... well that's disappointing because that's what I plan to do with mine and there is only 15 months warranty left on it, at 7k a pop you wouldn't want to do one out of warranty.

hope the transfer isnt a week link and its one area i feel Jeep has always had a good reputation in, I was running 35 inch centrepiedes at 4psi with bead locks and never did a transfer in my wrangler.

when you wheel are you on the limiter alot bouncing? or do you crawl? is there things you could have done to avoid it?

If you come wheeling with me you will prob work out why it's broken. If I can't crawl it the car gets launched at it to get the traction control working harder. Mine has been on at least 20 of what I would call hard-extreme rock 4x4ing trips and I've kept up with cars that it shouldn't keep up with. Only way to do that is to be mean to the car...lots of bouncing and often crawling won't do that's why I have the rock rails I have and I re paint the bash plates monthly. If you can crawl the track the car will be fine don't worry.

As requested here's a template to make spacers for the front coil over. Designed on the back of a beer carton.
