Drover, I don't mean to keep banging on about idrive, but just some final thoughts: You are correct in terms of how it works (no actual HP increase). It doesn't claim to increase power, only to make more of your power immediately available.

I have to disagree with you about it having no effect at speed. The difference is remarkable (imo). I realised straight away that it impacts across the entire speed curve, not just on standing starts. Therefore throttle lag must be existent at speed, even though it's less noticeable than on a standing start. If lag wasn't present, idrive couldn't make the difference that it does.

It's especially noticeable on overtaking in the mid-speed range, acceleration is significantly magnified while mostly remaining in the same gear. Mine definitely gives me the extra grunt at speed and kicks down much less often to achieve it.

It is pretty much impossible to run a true comparison unless the vehicle has one fitted.

I've no idea how competing throttle controllers perform, haven't tried any!

This is a reasonable youtube clip on it.

As someone said it is probably just an op amp, that amplifies the signal from the throttle to the ECU, therefore speeding up response. Also meaning you only have to put your foot down part way, to get full throttle.

That's exactly what they are. All they do is amplify the signal to trick the ECU into thinking that although you have (for example) 25% throttle, the ECU will see it as 50% 0r 75% depending on your settings.

You can get the same result by just planting your foot harder, however, the beauty about idrive is that you don't have to think about it, it does it for you which makes driving an electronic throttle vehicle so much better.

The only real way to experience it is to try it, otherwise there is only speculation. There's a couple of vids around, the one posted by 08crd is probably the best demo (from the 11.30 mins point) without trying it for yourself.

The effect isn't the same as just planting your foot harder, I've tried that a few times to be sure and it just doesn't replicate the experience.

Entirely up to the individual, but for a couple of hundred bucks it's satisfyingly transformed my car, and towing with it is an added bonus

I agree exactly .
I change the settings at times to suit my driving needs.
If you think its just a matter of putting your foot down faster you need to try one to find out for your self.

Lovin this car more and more by the day!
Roof rails rocked up yesterday, chucked em on, I must say, they are tight. I put my Rola rack on top this arvo and fitted the old Kings awning. I've seen all the flimsy roof posts and a couple of vids, however I heaved onto the corners and I'm no lightweight and there didn't seem to be any flexing, same as when I was up on the rear tyre and holding one edge of the rack and rocking the car back and forth.
Anyhow, after seeing the pics of how piss weak the mounting is in the roof of these rigs, I still won't trust it with much weight, just the awning, the odd chair and other light shit.
Crossing the Simmo later this year and I was hoping to at least take 1 or 2 jerries of diesel on the rack for safety, any opinions form people who have done this? I've seen vids and pics of roof rails fitted with a rack on top like mine and people carrying jerries and other crap with no issues.
