One of the other important things I'm keeping in mind is keeping it so Ann can drive it. She wants to compete in it as well, so the seat will have to be on an adjustable rail so she can reach all the controls

From now on i will not post that late at night.

U flip the diff to make a rear engined buggy drive the right way (apparently 5 gears backwards and 1 gear forward isnt the best)

Reverse cut gears only work with high pinion diffs, u cant put reverse gears into a low pinion, they wont mesh together. The only way u are going to have a high pinion rear engined buggy is to start with low pinion diffs. Its all about which side the pinion gear is on compared to the ring gear, not the way the gears are cut.

Ben,

I mention the classes for a reason.
If you plan to compete to have fun and to hopefully be competative - then personally I'd build for the legends class. I suspect the unlimited class is going to become VERY expensive VERY quickly if you wish to remain anywhere near competitive......
My crystal ball thinks it will become the realm of shop built or heavily sponsored or simple those with way more money than me (that's not hard though).....
Whereas I think the Legends class could potentially be a lot more fun - especially if you are planning to do it as a "couple" thing......

I'd have to make it a 2 seater and choose some smaller tyres to fit into Legends.. I'll have a read of the rules in depth tonight and see what the core differences are.

no hydraulic steering is the biggest compromise.

Both OZ Rock and WE Rock Australia are affiliated with WE Rock international...

This means that the rules and vehicle classes are the same... which is wicked!

So... front or rear engine?? Rear steer?

...and yes, I reckon all classes will have a spurt in competitiveness over the next year... and if you build it strong it will certainly be an advantage!

And not having the cash? It's all about priorities... I don't own a house, and basically have no savings. It all goes into the sport I love. I am always in the red.

If you look at the top competitors most of them do own 4x4 based businesses... but I don't think it will stay that way. As the sport grows the genuinely good teams will float to the surface... and pick up sponsors... and prosper.

Won't happen overnight, but it will happen.

S.
