I'm a mechanic by trade, not a very good one and definately no wheel aligner but i do have some idea
i just want to be able to drive it in a straight line without getting arm pump and a headache from concentrating on where i think it might go next. LOL
Shims are used in the front and are mounted inside the mounts where the lower control arm attaches to the body, as for offset balljoints, they aren't normally used for camber issues, they are normally used for caster issues, they come in 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2 degree offsets.....

All went well. I even dropped a bolt, the one that goes at the very back. It fell onto the trans. I thought it was gone for sure. I tried the air gun and no luck with it dropping on the ground. I crawlled under on the wet ground and felt around, thinking this is a needle in a hay stack. Well I will be buggered I felt it with my finger and was able to fish it out. . Now to crawll back under and see if I have a rear main weep, or whether all the oil was coming from the rocker cover like the mech thought. Either way it may not change much I am not overly keen to take the sump off a second time when I probably should have done it at the same time as the sump gasket.

Found a place at Narrellan on the central coast that will supply and fit adjustable balljoints and do a wheel alignment on the xj. for $450. they tell me the adjustable joints do caster and camber. That will do me.

Yep as I suspected my rear main is leaking. So minor though that it does not even leave a drop on the ground. It will go into the oneday list when I have nothing else left to do on the XJ.
