I ran my stock spare on the rear with the 285 50 20 on the other wheels all the way from Mungeranie on the Birdsville Tk back to Adelaide. The difference is minimal and it didn't cause any issues.

Diameter fits (removing the tubs), but tyre width causes the boot floor to sit up a bit. Works for some but I prefer it closed, so I've got a 255/70/18 spare which has the same diameter as 275/65/18 (32.1") but will let the floor close.

Since I last posted, I found a set of 18" Rims and tyres.
So I snapped them up. The tyres are pretty worn, so will replace them and make this my offroad set.

I'm a bit confused about tyre size and profile numbers.
I thought the 65 or 70 number was directly proportional to height of the rubber but it must be a ratio if a 70 and 65 are the same diameter.
OK so now I'm looking for 18" rubber that fits. I'll use your numbers of 275/65 and 255/70 and see what I can find.

Cheers

Yes it is a proportion or percentage if you like of the tyre's width. So if you have two tyres that are 265mm wide and one is a 60 profile and the other is a 70 profile, then the 70 profile tyre will be taller and have the larger diameter.

Default Tyres

Some time has passed since we started this thread.

I replaced the tyres on the 18 Inch rims I found, with TOYO Open Country ATII's.

Have done a few thousand kays on them, with about 150km of beach/ sand 4wding.

They have been great so far. Drop them to 18 PSI in soft sand and 24 PSI on firmer sand.

They are reasonably quiet for AT's and the fuel consumption on the highway has gone up 1 litre/ 100km. I run them at 42PSI on the highway.

I find them better at absorbing bumps offroad than the 20 Inch Rims/tyres.

Only problem is cornering and handling are much worse than 20 Inch Rims with road tyres. I guess that's the price you pay for having offroad capability.

Once finances improve, I will powdercoat the original 20 inch Rims and put some highway tyres on them. Just in case I want to drive over East and want fuel economy/ silence/ cornering etc.

I went standard size, so no rubbing issues.

Cheers

They were on my list last tyre shop but no LT in 265 18 only a 285 65 18. So went Geolanders in LT, very similar tread.
