The difference between theory and practice is, in theory there is no difference...

Definitely forward. The front fender angles forward and with the bonnet in the closed position there will be more flat space there. The forward position in your photo will result in a better location aesthetically. Better alignment with the upper cowl top flat and your willys pressing. Also, the door skin pressing is forward slightly (or is it symmetric?) so would suit the existing OEM offsets.
