I was told by a dealer the left hand side was already available with the eyeball socket tow with the car, hence the hook option was only available for the right hand side. Like I said, I never been under to check out what is different about the left and right hand side chassis mount points.

They are exact mirror images.

The driver's side has the stupid screw in "towing eye" bracket. Just undo the three bolts and take it out. Then bolt in the new recovery point using their bolts. the two vertical ones are M12 I think and have a 16 mm head. The horizontal one is a 13 mm head and engages for around 30 mm or more so it is a pain to unscrew and then screw back in.

On the passenger side I used the bolts from the Jeep Aust hook - the two vertical ones are M12 with a 17 mm head.

They are actually fairly easy to get to - especially compared to the Jeep one!

I am having a think about a simple spring to go across the opening to stop the strap coming off if the tension is released. I don't think it will be too hard as there is some vertical sheet metal close by to attach to.

Price wise, he is working it out. He will supply 4 x M12 high tensile bolts. He was thinking that the pair will be significantly cheaper than Jeep Aust's single one.

Once he has a price, I'll post it here.

I prefer to avoid metal in a recovery when possible, hence the hook.

Cheers

The driver's side is a tow eye/tiedown point, NOT a recovery point. The steel on the mounting plate is less than half the thickness of the recovery points.

Unless those hooks are tested and rated, there's no way I'd be risking them (or any other "home made" option) in a recovery situation. Sorry, but I've seen the damage towballs can do , quite apart from the times I've pulled cars up cliffs and out of creeks sideways with driver still in place.

Look very nice and tidy, if anything gives away it would probably be the body work.

They are made from the same steel as the Jeep ones, or thicker. The hooks are actually laminated out of 3 layers of 4 mm lasercut steel.

The bolts are the original Jeep ones.

Yes, I think the chassis rails will break first.

And using two of them, instead of just one as Jeep suggest, makes the whole thing even stronger.

Cheers

These would be stronger than the genuine jeeps. > http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Jeep-WK-G...-/111055280962

These ones which are custom fabricated hooks are welded, as opposed to bolt ons.
