Default Dec 05 CRD 60,000 kms

Hmmm, where do I start ...

Trip computer barfs, Aircon blows hot air (from new) - perhaps fixed by eventual replacement of overhead console (is that the EVIC evryone mentions?) after 8 months
2 sets front rotors, 1 set back rotors, machined front and rear, 3 sets front pads, 2 sets rear pads
hard to start about once per month - told it's dirty air cleaner - air cleaner replaced still happens
car stalls, dies intermittently - injectors replaced Christmas 06, maybe fixed
split intercooler hoses (both) ...
Ball Joint and Torque converter recall
All in a car just over 1 year old ...

I bought my CRD at Southport but was getting it serviced and "sorted" in Brisbane (for convenience) ... well, I learned my lesson. Now I invest the extra time and take it to Southport to get sorted. When the intercooler hose went (didn't know it was that at the time) on a Monday morning and Jeep assist would only tow me to Brisbane - who couldn't possibly look at it until Thursday or Friday - I spent the $100.00 and had it towed to Southport who put me straight into a loaner and got meback on the road.
The service, interest and attention to detail at the Brisbane (southside) service centre leaves a lot to be desired.

Rotor problems are due to uneven torque of wheel nuts....easy fix.

Hard to start problem indicates air in the fuel line - there's been some defective filter housings in KJs, take the electric connections off the Fuel Filter housing and pump the priming button, if you see fuel coming out anywhere then this is where the air is getting in.

Split intercooler hoses are because of oil in the intercooler - fit a provent - solves the oil buildup problem.

Ball joint recall - all KJ's had the recall (all X00,000 of them) - no big drama as they only failed very rarely due to corrosion (snow/saltly roads in USA) and really this was just DC avoiding law suits in the USA.

Torque converter - a small percentage of CRD's will show transmission problems manifesting in torque converter failure - they are offering those that think they have a problem the torque converter replacement as a customer satisfaction recall ie its not mandatory, but you may as well have it done as long as the workshop doing the work is competent and not going to stuff anything else up by removing the tranny to do it.

I'm getting mine checked this week. I did a trip out to Warwick last week and it has started to shudder at 80kph - feels like the TC is struggling getting in & out of Lock Up mode. 90+ its still there but not as bad, below 75Kph its smooth as silk, and its definately not the driveshaft.

I've always wondered if you would still get the shuddering after the TC TSB with a DPchip.

Am I putting thoughts in your head now Stu? hehe

Is it a really noticeable shudder or just a very minor vibration like driving on a bitmumen road thats not entirely smooth? Sometimes I think mine may shudder above 80km/h (in lock up), but it could also be that the BFG's aren't balanced perfectly - its that sort of very light vibration that's hardly noticeable. Is yours like that or do you really know when it shudders?

I've kept quiet ... touch wood stuff...
2005 3.7lt KJ 40,000
Day one HUD console kept displaying some message.. very brief turns out it was Hood open light.. dab of blue tac no probs since.

10,000 km Temp sensor shat itself (read very hot even when stone cold so fuel was increased to cool.. viscious circle) dealership said they would need the car for 2 days as it had a wiring fault. I showed them that if I put a 200U resistor across the contacts it read mid range and 400U it was cold so they ordered a new sender unit.. problem resolved.

At 24,000 (after service) I noticed that one front brake pad had worn down at 45 degrees. (installed crooked)... tried for a waranty set but it was out by 800km so put in a set of Hardy Ferrado 4WD ones 18k on and hardly any wear.
Had the ball joints done... recall
30,000 rear oil seal leaked enough to convince DC to replace under waranty together with rear shoes and their lovely oil and additives.

I change oil and filter every 5000kim. (penrite)
Hope I don't get any of the horror stories I hear..

p.s B4 and after every trip I give my car a full prep with level checks and under vehicle inspection.. worth the time often find little things have come loose .. brake lines.. ABS sensors loose body panels etc all these things could have compounded if left.
