i believe you will find the key needs to be coded to the pcm and not the other way around. the dealer s/b able to pull the skim code out of the pcm and make up a key for it (my best guess).

btw - just had a zj here today. came towed in from an auto electrical shop that said the pcm was stuffed. turned out to be the crank sensor. this is the 3rd car in the last few weeks from electrical shops saying stuffed pcm and none of them were correct. but having said that i think in this case shauny has exhausted almost all other possibilities and if it were me i might be doing a pcm as well at this point. $250 from the states for a reman pcm with all the Mopar updates is a pretty cheap option if you really think about it. fuel pumps cost more than that!

hope the pcm sorts it for ya mate!

and ps - here's another one falling under the subject of totally unrelated/last thing you would think of: zj with actual blown pcm (yes, one of the few ive seen). BUT, it was blown due to a problem in the cruise control circuit! totally weird

you dont have to do that as the key sends a signal to the skim located in the steering column which in turns sends a signal to the ecu to say the key has been verified

therefore the ecu just bolts in. only thing to do is the odometer reading

that is why it would be good if you could swap in a spare ecu from another jeep to see if that is the problem, as it is so easy to do.

ecu malfunctions are very rare
