Default 18" wheels with a 20" spare ok?

I have a WK2 CRD non-QL, and a lift kit is going in shortly. Tyre wise, I would like to go for 265x70xR18 (dia 828mm). The closest thing I can find that will fully (I think) fit in the spare wheel well is a 245x65x20 (dia 827mm).

Does this seem like an Ok approach? Seemed odd to me at first, but from the factory the fitted wheels and spare are a different size, so maybe this isn't so bad?

I don't think the 265/70R18 will fit? Even with the lift. Although my STMaxx are 818mm diameter. I went for a Bridgestone D840 H/T 255/70R18 for the spare, just fits in the spare wheel well. it is 815mm OD.

Benno

So 265/65-18 is okay for clearance? Do you have Quadralift?

Cheers

I do have quadralift, they are STMaxx LT275/65R18.

At park height the rear tyre is half a finger width to the inner well liner infront of the tyre, very close. At the front I get rubbing at full lock on the inside front well liner. At NRH or higher there is no rubbing.

The shoulders of these tyres round off quite a bit, so clearance is good as a result. Probably similar to the cooper AT3 in the same size. That bolt at the top inside of the front tyre clears by a good index finger width.

Benno

Thanks for that.

I am off on a 10,000 km loop to western Queensland and back. When I return, I have to decide what tyres to put on next...

I will be interested to see what you think of the tyres.

Cheers

Yep, I'm happy so far, just find them a little vague in the steering over 100kph.
