Regards A
crank sensor to maybe?

i wouldnt think bad oxy sensor would make it stall

mine were shazzamed on my xj limited and it just converted it to diesel

ran crazy rich black smoke puring out of it. but still ran and idled pretty ok

i sank it in a deep deep bog hole and that caused them to stuff up

sprayed everything with silicone spray

each time i thought i would have fixed the issue of stalling in shallow water but today i hosed the coil and distributor and the spark plugs. that's more water than i would get on it all if i went through a puddle. still didn't recreate the problem.

i wonder if it could be the oxygen sensors..
What about fuel? Does it ever happen just over bumps?

@ windex - Ive only experienced the stalling from puddles

@ tuffeb - so its probably not the oxygen sensor. ill check for any shorts in the wires. i know sensor connections usually aren't affected by a blast of water

its an unusual case since most times when the ignition gets wet it takes a bit of time and effort to make it come good again. so it must be something a bit unusual. tomorrow ill have it running and spray everything with a hose to try reproduce the problem.

How big is the slight puddle to get water in the MAP sensor?

i sprayed water all around the ignition system for about 30 seconds before it got into the cap and affect the idle but only took a quick splash to stop the engine when i put the water on the manifold area (sprayed it up from the ground to simulate going through a 2 or 3 inch puddle)engine cut out instantly. on inspection, the TPS and map have some water and dirt got past the pinched seals. looks like the old owner maybe had it apart at some stage and scrunched the plugs back together a bit hurriedly. the CPS is a bit corroded like its had water and the IAT looks dry. could be there's some salt residue in the plug cavity's as this jeeps done a lot of offroad work. looks like all it needs a good clean and the connections put together properly with a bit of silicone spray.

yet another fault discover. my crank angle wire is melted half way along where its close to the exhaust. so its been shorting when i go through a puddle but drying out straight away allowing me start it up straight after. this could be mystery solved.
