Got frustrated with it. Looks like the front left brake has failed in some way, sounded like a freight train when I hit the motorway and I got an overpowering burnt brake pad smell, then the rough idle's suddenly come back with a vengeance, it's barely coping with the heat and the front suspension / steering box brace or whatever is still clunking and sounding horrible.

After over 18 years of ownership, it's starting to feel like maybe it's time to just let it go...

Default Decided to rip the interior out! Time for a revamp

Got sick of staring at tan so decided to rip the inside out and change it all.

Got it all out except the main dash part, so I sprayed it in there.

Will do the headliner this weekend, it was filthy

Got a fair bit sprayed and my new 4.5 RE kit came in.

And gave it a bit of a wash seeing as its out of rego and can't take it anywhere

Both actually. The clunking we're all but certain is the brace as we saw the movement in the steering box, and you notice it most when going from a full left to full right lock - it lets out a nice clunk around the midpoint of the turn. As for the groan, it likes to groan only when you turn the wheel to the right and at low speeds for some reason... I figure the PS pump must be on its way out, fluid is fresh and full.

Anyway, I've picked up a new front pad set for it and will get stuck into that this weekend. Everything else will just have to wait... I've got to call the local dealer back again to try and get this steering box issue sorted.

Wish my XJ's engine bay was that tidy! I keep my BMW like that, but the Jeeps' just been neglected too long. Would take me days just to scrub all the crap off haha.

Sounds to me like your ball joints are worn out Sobek. Get a front end check and I would say they are.

Looks good! What did you spray those with? Or did you have it done?
