It's some kind of corrosion. There ,is no sign of anything anywhere in the engine bay. Just what you can see on the radiator. The bottom two rows have bad rust on them. Copper doesn't rust. I don't know what that white substance is either although it's only on the radiator and it's on both sides.
The ol' XJ has ran hot twice since xmas in those few days where we copped 40+. But, I'm fairly sure it did not over heat. 105 - 110 at most. It did not boil. I have lost coolant but, only about 500ml to 1l.

Pretty sure I don't have any probs, just wondering about that on the radiator???

cheers

New rad is due mate. Shes cactus. That is coolant leakage sorry to say.

Hmm. I was dreading that.
I had to re-use it as we're going visiting tomorrow.
I guess we'll have to budget in a new radiator.

The new viscous clutch is piss weak! Not happy with it at all.
It was a standard replacement from 4x4 point. Pfft.

Ahhh well. Will fix it all before Camp Coffs..

Get onto Dave at Wooders for the viscous. They aren't expensive. I can't remember the cost. The rad rust is from coolant leakage. My copper/brass rad from Repco was around the $350 mark with trade discount. Make sure you clean out the a/c condenser too while it's apart. They clog up and restrict air flow. By the look of the rad a coolant flush through the motor also is a good idea that your doing.

I bought the adrad all metal radiator - worth calling around though Bruggz - first quote was well north of $400, second place I rang offered $330, no haggling required!
Both places had to order in, so it's not even like they were holding stock for the extra premium...
