Hmmmmm.

A double din unit wont slip straight in. You have to butcher the ventilation ducting behind.

From the add:

SLIGHT SUB DASH MODIFICATIONS NEEDED TO FIT TODAY'S DOUBLE DIN RADIO'S / BEZEL COVERS ALL MODIFICATIONS / VEHICLE MAY BE TURNED BACK TO STOCK IF WANTED

Cheers.

Personally I think double din has gone out of fashion (still nice, just not as. Popular as it once was). My TJ, same dash, I put a nice Kenwood single din in that I purchased on special as SC. Very straight forward install.

Yeah Mace1 there is some surgery needed not a lot there is a couple of youtube vids I watched about the installation
That is still a bit of a pipe dream at the moment as the bezel works out to be about $170.00 aud posted to me that money well I need to get it on the road first!
I got the trans cooler out!... what a job! nothing is ever easy cut bash grind drill saw while all this destruction was going on I put a piece of plywood in front of the air con condenser Just In Case!
I managed to save 3/4 of the original brackets to mount the new unit to I might extend them I don't know as yet I will go and get some hose 2 joiners and 6 clamps tomorrow .... and 6 litres of distilled water
And that's it I am ready to put it all back together

I have done No research on single or double din radios as yet I just like the idea of Hands Free Phone GPS Reverse and Dash Cam..
In fact the 99 has a working stock stereo in it..
Connected the transmission cooler lines today .. I got one connected But the bottom (return) line Defeated Me! ...
I am not one for giving up and not playing my disability card either "the fucking thing was tight" even with 2 good hands .. I called my neighbour over and he pushed from the top I was underneath (I wish I took the skid plate off!) holding the hose ... it was a effort but it's finally on!
I have to repair and extend the damaged brackets as they pretty much fit the new cooler
While the grill is out I am going to fit the headlight upgrade loom I bought a while back for the 96 but never fitted
I think the new upgrade loom and some new bulbs .. should brighten things up .
The light bars fate hasn't been decided yet? to trip on high beam or a switch on the dash?
I like the switch idea I just get a spot light smart harness of eBay .. easy

I love my Kenwood double din in my pre-update. I wired in a reverse camera, and it has hands free which works brilliant with my phone.
The touch screen works great. Also plays Spotify play lists from your phone, CD, DVD. Got it on Ebay for about $300. Had a few Chinese units that were junk.

My phone has a magnet on the back, and just sticks on a magnetic pod next to the stereo.

Also, I wired my light bar through my Jeeps spotlight switch. Only comes on with high beam, but can also be switched off via the switch.

Cheers,

I like the look Alex especially the blue back light on the gauges I think you posted this pic before and I drooled over it .. but wasn't worth the $ on my 96 it might not be the prettiest girl at the party but it is Mech A1 ... but the 99 is a different story ....... it would suit some tech ......
Nothing Today .. we had to go to Barcaldine the 96 Purred at 100 kph/cruise control .. 1850 rpm .. 112 deg never moving
as I am going to put the headlight harness upgrade loom in I went on eBay last night and got some "bright white" xeon bulbs ... so they are in the post I have to get some scrap metal ... to fix the brackets and modify to mount the new tranny cooler .... No Rush it Runs.......
