That's a welcome relief Thanks for the link (again) Benno!

In addition, to ensure that MY16 Jeep vehicles sold from February 2017 don’t miss out, for those models Jeep Australia is combining the standard three-year manufacturer’s warranty with a two-year extended warranty provided by Eric Insurance Limited

I did ask about the extended warranty when we picked her up mid Feb, but I had an idea they only mentioned a 3 year standard factory warranty.

I will have to ask Aspley Jeep about the extra 2 years.

Really extended warranties shouldn't be needed, the 2011 consumer protection laws mean that the warranty can't be limited by time, it is limited by what is a reasonable expectation. So if you motor was to blow at 3 years and 1 month Jeep really should still honour a warranty claim, and they most likely would. Smaller stuff could be a fight, but they should be covering it if it is a reasonable expectation that it last longer.

From memory the extended warranty was $2k....

Youi replaced our MY15 WK2 (new for old) even though it had the lift kit installed at that time. I now wonder what the compliance on that model was (purchased new 03/15).

It's not too bad at stock (esp with the bash plate), but I find it frustrating each time I feel the bash plate hitting sand on the Bribie track (even worse when it's ROCK scraping the underfloor on the northern bypass road at Moreton...nasty stuff). If the front end was at least leveled it would make a huge difference IMO.

Perhaps I should ring Youi and ask if I'm still covered if I manage to get a suspension lift installed.

Thanks for the heads up Wanderer, I seem to recall reading something similar on the forums a few months back.

Matt

(**If Youi say 'NO' then I would seriously consider the 'Trailhawk' when the lease is up next year....looks hot and already comes with QL)
Matt...MC to MA change happened mid to late 2015..I have a mate who has an 03/15 and it is still MC..I've looked at the latest 2017 Laredo and it is MA..As far as I can find out once complianced as MA that stays with the vehicle until its graveyard...change can only be on new vehicles so that being the case ..once sold mid 2015 to now have missed the boat ..let's hope Jeep do as they say (don't hold your breath)..Ford have had a change of heart with the Everest and changed back to MC but those already sold as I've said can't be re-complianced..What I've heard is that Ford have come to some arrangement with OLD Transport (not sure about other states) to allow offroad mods but how this applies Nationally??..Strange that BMW X3 and Mazda CX models are still MC while Jeep(the offroad legend) 4x4 GCs are MA.......I stand to be corrected on any of this but this but it's the way I read it..Not sure about the statement "backdated its re-classification to make the 2015 model MC-equivalent, to"..(EQUIVALENT)!!!!!! is this like what Ford has done??..Are they issuing new compliance plates???...am I confused??..Yep

Ford have made arrangements with each state's authority to treat the everest as MC even if complianced as MA. It looks like Jeep are doing the same.

Hello Benno..You may remember when I had serious issues with my 2014 diesel Laredo..Finally sorted after much drama & FCA included an extended warranty and yes a bit over $2k is right and under ACL extended warranties shouldn't be need as there is an assumption (rather an expectation) that at the cost of a vehicle it should last more that 3 years without a serious malfunction but then I've had the misfortune to sussed the Office of Fair Trading an ACCC etc ..All I can say is good luck and get yourself a good lawyer as I did.

I'd be asking FCA for this in writing and keep it in the glove compartment..Hate to be put off the road by an Officer of the Law who isn't the wiser.

There is supposedly more detail coming next week, but ford sent out a letter stating this to their customers, I'd expect Jeep are going to do the same.

It can be difficult getting car companies to comply with the law, but to be fair the new CEO seems to be making a good effort to get their act together. The Destroy my Jeep guy has had some good things to say lately. They actually got him to go in and present to the FCA execs on what they are doing wrong and they have been actively buying back cars and getting stuff fixed that should have happened originally. So I'm feeling better about being a jeep owner who is about to come out of warranty.....
