Hi All, I am new to this Forum but have been looking for an eventual replacement of my 95XJ Sport 4.0L Petrol that I have had since new, and have done extensive outback - non-blacktop touring since day #1. I was seriously considering a Land Rover Defender or Disco. I have been very satisfied with the XJ. Yes, it has cost a bit of money to maintain over the years in a couple of Jeep dealership service departments, but I have never needed an entourage of IT specialists to follow me in the bush to tell me why certain warning lights come up. For arguments sake, we are not talking about a 747-400.
I was looking to possibly go to a TD engine on my next car with a Commander. Given the Grand Chekka is virtually the same underneath, I have been scared away from it with this thread. In fact, I will confess that even in petrol guise, the warning lights would tick me off, particularly when they cannot tell you that your engine is going into meltdown, and has cried 'wolf' too many times for anywone to care - I don't like IT departments in the bush - if anywhere. Look, it is not unique to Jeep, but I want to drive something with a mechanical shifter, not a Microsoft Windows interface. Also, is there any certainty in Chrysler or Jeep remaining in Australia? This would be the biggest factor working against them in new car sales.
I got a call recently from Chrysler Jeep themselves -not the dealership- after having serviced my car and they sought likert scale ratings. What they wanted to know was my satisfaction with the dealership service dept. With an XJ, I could only give them a good wrap. As much as the dealership sees an XJ in their workshop as an anomaly these days compared to the hi-tech machines, I sense it is like a breath of fresh air for them. I digress. Back to the CJ survey, their last question was a hum dinger. "Would you purchase another Jeep? Possible Answers were Definitely, Probably, Probably Not, Definitely Not. There was no "undecided" answer to chose from. Is Chrysler Jeep investigating their future in Australia, or using these results as a basis for an exit strategy?
