Hey Pipe, is that the case? I'm only going off what I've been told myself, by a few people. I'm quite happy to save myself the $600 to be honest and do the lift kit only. Stu himself is one of those that strongly recommends you fit the new control arms. I've been thinking about getting a lift kit soon but haven't decided between OME or CRDSTU. I do get the feeling that the CRDSTU kit will be better customised to the KJ whereas the OME will just be ARB's off the shelf combo to fit them KJ spec. Would I be correct?

It's not just Stu, it's fairly widely recommended that the HD UCA's are a good idea in order to reduce stress on the ball joints and ensure there is no contact with the upper ball joint. Of course it doesn't mean if you don't do it that your jeep spontaneously combust etc, rather you are at greater risk of issues down the track (so to speak)

Re the OME kit, it's also tailored for the KJ and many people run it happily, it's more that Stu's is tailored differently based on his own testing and in particular my understanding is he has done the best job in tailoring for the CRD, which has it's own unique challenges.

I recently decided to lift and went with the CRD Stu kit + the JBA upper A arms myself (not fitted yet). If I had a petrol I probably would have gone with something cheaper but having a CRD I didn't want to risk sagging issues with a less proven kit.

Totally agree with what you're saying Dissociative.

OK, let's talk price. I prefer Stu's kit but it's priced at $1550. OME kit I got quoted was about $1350 or so from ARB. Both of these do not include installation and its only fair to compare them apples to apples as I live in Sydney and I'm not driving to Brisbane to get a lift kit installed.

I'm going to the Camping Supershow, on here in Sydney at the moment and apparently ARB guys are "doing deals". So if I can get this even cheaper from ARB I think I think I will definitely go down the ARB road. If they refuse to do anything then perhaps for a $200 differential I might still go down the CRDSTU path.

I hear you, had similar thoughts. It's a lot to spend on a kj at this stage in the game. I'm sure you'll be happy with an ARB, in fact I know someone very happily running an ironman kit, which is even cheaper (under $1k from memory), his is a petrol though.

Dissociative, while you wait for your lift to go in why don't you do the conduit nut / prado packer or nothing at all Clevis lift to return your front end to a healthier height. 10 mins with a spanner and you'll be happy again
